Instant Webmaster - No Strings Attached
July 15, 2008
Years ago, having a webpage meant one of two things: you had money to buy services of a web master or you were a webmaster/programmer. Not too much time has passed since blogs have come been unleashed on the web and everyone has access to set up their own website…for free! Unlike a webpage that would take a lot of preparation and information to put up, blogs simply allow you to write about what you wish as you wish. No strings attached.
Getting the hang of writing interesting content in theory takes a snowball effect. You start without a clue then you find other bloggers and begin your social community that is anything but local. Many gurus will tell you that it is important to have a niche and without one you are lost at sea. However, what many successful bloggers don’t tell you is that your niche will refine with practice. You have to start blogging before you can really take a solid stance on how you are going execute your goals.
A niche is finding that diamond in the rough that everyone else is overlooking. It doesn’t mean there is no competition in your niche, it simply leads to you doing better what others are making money doing. These niches often contain a small group of competitors that rule the topic of choice. So it is your job to understand how they became successful and add your own spin. This is where blogs come in handy. If you are just starting out, your niche may be completely foreign territory and blogging is your way in. By being able to discuss with customers about their opinions on certain aspects of business overall or the behaviors of current industry leaders you can start to map out your road to success. This connection with people that share common interests is also a great way to start your foundation of customers. Being social is key.
Maintaining your blog does not have to be your forty hour work week, but it should have routine updates. The sooner you update your site, the better the chances for your rankings to start the climb to the top. One key concept to remember is that Google doesn’t sleep and the later you postpone your sites availability is another day lost for Google to find your site. Google is the most popular search engine so it is grave that you take the right steps to get your site on their good side. The difficulty level is no-existent. Google ranks sites according to relevance. A quick break down shows that if you say your site is about a topic, you should support it with relevant content. The longer people stay on your site the better and the more people that agree with your site the better. This can come from people linking to you because you have quality information or people blogging about you because what you write about is intriguing.
Traffic is generated by content, links and value. That’s why every site should add a blog traffic counter. With this program, you will get feedback on how your site is progressing in the terms of what visitors like and dislike without ever having to talk to them. You can watch their behaviors on your site and understand what really needs to be adjusted. For example, if the are clicking out of your sites main page within seconds than you know your homepage needs reworking.
Information like how many hits, views, visits, clicks are all calculated and organized for you. Some are free blog counters offering you basic feed back data while there are some that are sold since these blog counters deal with in depth tracking. Everyone has a potential to be a blogger and there are others who developed a sizable traffic to get some income from blogging. Learn more about Blog Counters and how they are a tool you can’t do without.
